Storyteller Interiors is an intimate decorating studio creating highly personalized spaces with a sense of naturalness and laidback luxury. We inject soul into our interiors, adding realness through the warmth of age or patina, revealing inherent, timeless beauty.
By injecting a mix a of styles, periods and provenances, we create spaces that feel less “decorated” in the conventional sense, and more intuitively styled for individual character. And while our vision and resources run deep, our ethos is to place human needs first, to develop warm environments with positive energy, comfort and livability.
We are inspired by working with clients who have differing needs and aesthetics, and aspire to highlight uniqueness and inviting atmospheres. The home should be an ongoing narrative of the owners’ personalities and habits, so we get to know our clients to understand their needs, tastes and affinities, in order to achieve an interesting play of furniture, art, objects, color, pattern, and texture.
Few rules. Much originality.
Susan Cannon - Founder
Storytelling through styling, writing and decorating has been a common thread in Susan’s work. She comes from a long career as a fashion editor and stylist, starting in New York at Vogue Magazine, and on to other titles including Elle, Marie Claire and Jane. Those years were filled with travel and exposure to original design and the aesthetic richness of different cultures, people and their habits. With a formal education in art history, a strong work ethic, and a passion for interiors and architecture, Susan went on to become the design editor, and then editor-in-chief of Home & Design Magazine in Miami… and later as the editor of M, a family lifestyle magazine in Kansas City, where she intuitively pushed the visual and editorial boundaries. Also consulting as an image director and stylist for small businesses, and as a design, fashion, beauty + wellness writer allows Susan to continue her creative path while gaining new knowledge—the ultimate gift in her book.
Kate Norton - Creative Contributor
Kate experienced a lively childhood in Devon, England with the beauty of its history and the pastoral, rolling countryside as her playground, initially sparking her love of aesthetics and environment. In her pre-teen years her family moved to Papua New Guinea, followed by Australia—both rich experiences visually and on a humanitarian level—formulating a drive within her to make travel a priority in her life. After returning to Henley-on-Thames for school, the travel bug got the better of Kate and she moved to Israel to live and work on a Kibbutz. She then traveled Egypt, Italy and the French Alps, which ultimately lead her to Colorado, then Kansas City. Her memories of the Papua New Guinea tribal ceremonies with colorful feathers and brightly painted faces inspired her long career as a makeup artist. Her creative work spans doing makeup for fashion editorials, national brand campaigns and fashion retailers while decorating her historic Colonial home and lake house, honing her skills for collecting and home styling.
